In 2019 the German Chemical Society (GDCh) will hold its next Science Forum Chemistry: WiFo (Wissenschaftsforum Chemie), the most important chemical scientific forum in the German-speaking world. We all remember with pleasure the 2017 congress in Berlin that marked the 150th anniversary of the founding of GDCh. Some 2,700 participants joined to celebrate this anniversary forum, setting a new WiFo record. GDCh aims to build on this success by focusing once more on the importance of chemistry in meeting social challenges. IUPAC, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, has declared 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT). Accordingly, the chemical communities of Germany and the Benelux countries will meet in Aachen from 15 to 18 September 2019 at Eurogress with the motto 'Chemistry - The Essential Element'.
Among the Eurogress high points are the three plenary symposia slated to begin each day of the congress with addresses by chemistry pioneers and public-opinion leaders. Each day will be devoted to a different theme: on Monday, 16.09.2019, 'The Fascination of Chemistry', on Tuesday, 17.09.2019, 'Molecular Design', and on Wednesday, 18.09.2019, resources and sustainability issues in chemistry.
