After completing my bachelor’s in biomedical sciences (in Chennai, India), I moved to the Netherlands in August 2017 to pursue a master's in forensic science at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). While I don't have a formal background in analytical chemistry, I was introduced to it during my master's internship, where I focused on using MS-based proteomics for body fluid identification. Despite the challenges I faced, I thoroughly enjoyed the research and wanted to explore it further, which led me to pursue a PhD in the same field.
My doctoral research delves into the applications of MS-based proteomics in forensic science, addressing questions at the source level (what?) and the activity level (when?) of forensic evidence. As I near the completion of my PhD (with a few final hurdles to overcome), I began looking for a role that would align with my passion for science communication, fostering connections, and making a difference—big or small. I’m thrilled to have found that opportunity as a Community Manager at KNCV, starting in January 2025. One of my goals in this role is to establish an onboarding program that aims to support chemists, particularly internationals, in navigating the challenges of finding their place within the Dutch (chemical) community and society.
I currently live in The Hague with my husband and our three cats -- who on most days tolerate each other and, on rare occasions, even enjoy each other’s company. In my spare time, I love traveling and when I am not traveling, I am busy making plans to travel. I also enjoy running, reading, building Legos, attending music concerts, exploring the diverse restaurants of Chinatown (big fan of Asian cuisine), and volunteering at the Soepbus in The Hague.
