Speaker: Doulaye Kone - Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Today, 2.5 billion people are deprived of safe sanitation. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is committed to drastically reducing this number. Doulaye supports this foundation by disrupting the decades-long status quo in the sanitation sector in developing countries by reinventing the toilet and redefining fecal sludge management as a sustainable utility service. He is responsible for the Transformative Technologies and Product Development Portfolio, and for shaping the foundation's efforts to create a new sanitation industry to serve the majority of poor communities in developing countries in an equitable manner. Doulaye has more than 20 years of experience as a sanitation and water specialist, development expert and chief scientist. He holds a Ph.D., and MAS in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, MSc. and BSc. in Physics and Chemistry.
